Why Morocco?
The Wise Whale Project was created with a simple vision: to build a global network of local partnerships that combine responsible whale watching, scientific research, and marine conservation. Each new location will become a new chapter in our journey, working alongside local communities to better understand and protect marine life.
Morocco is where that journey begins.
We chose Morocco because its coastline remains largely untouched by whale-watching tourism. Unlike many destinations where cetaceans are exposed to constant boat traffic, Morocco offers a unique opportunity to develop responsible wildlife experiences from the very beginning.
Rather than adding pressure to animals already surrounded by boats, we want to help establish a model based on respect, science, and conservation. By starting in a place where whale watching is still in its early stages, we can promote sustainable practices that put the wellbeing of whales and dolphins first—while creating meaningful experiences that inspire people to protect the ocean.
WHY MOROCCO MATTERS ?
Morocco is also a place of incredible scientific potential. Despite its rich marine biodiversity, very little is known about the whales and dolphins that inhabit these waters, particularly along the Mediterranean coast near M’diq and the Strait of Gibraltar.
We truly believe every responsible whale-watching trip is an opportunity to learn. By combining ecotourism with scientific research, we collect valuable data that helps us better understand local cetacean populations, their behaviour, and the challenges they face.

1. Dolphin Watching Boat Tour
Une expérience en mer avec des biologistes marins
Cette expérience est conçue pour les clients qui souhaitent explorer la haute mer et en apprendre davantage sur la vie marine. L'excursion dure deux heures et nous emmène loin de la côte, vers le large, à la recherche de dauphins et d'autres mammifères marins.
Departure point : Our Dolphin tour depart from Marina Smir, located between Tetouan and M’diq on Morocco’s Mediterranean coast. Our team will meet you at the marina before departure and provide any final information before boarding.
This tour is limited to a maximum of six guests, ensuring a quiet, respectful, and personal experience. On board, you will be accompanied by a professional skipper and a marine biologist guide, who will share their knowledge of cetaceans, their behavior, and the ecosystem they live in.
L'accent est mis sur les cétacés, en particulier les dauphins. 2. TANGIER STRAIT WHALE WATCHING
A STRAIT OF GIBRALTAR EXPERIENCE WITH MARINE BIOLOGISTS
This 3-hour whale watching experience departs from Tangier and explores the entrance to the Strait of Gibraltar, one of the most important marine mammal migration routes between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea.
By spending more time offshore and closer to the Strait, this tour offers increased opportunities to encounter whales, dolphins, and other marine wildlife while discovering one of the region’s richest marine ecosystems.
This tour is limited to a maximum of 8 guests, ensuring a quiet, respectful, and personal experience. On board, you will be accompanied by a professional skipper and a marine biologist guide, who will share their knowledge of cetaceans, their behaviour, migration, and the marine environment.
This is a Research-Based Whale Watching Experience. During the trip we will:
– Photo-identification of whales and dolphins.
– Collect scientific data to support ongoing cetacean research.
– Contribute to the understanding and conservation of marine mammals in the Strait of Gibraltar.
