SOBRE NOSOTROS
The Proyecto Wise Whale was born from over 20 years of hands-on experience in whale watching and cetacean research. Founded by two marine biologists, the project is driven by a deep respect for the ocean and the life it sustains and offers an alternative. Rooted in respect, education, and connection, our experiences are designed to deepen understanding of marine life and foster lasting care for the ocean we share.
We were both working for other companies, over time, we reached a point where something felt missing. Despite spending our days on the ocean, we began to feel disconnected from what had first inspired us. We found ourselves bringing groups of people out to see dolphins and whales — not to learn about them, not to connect with them, but simply to entertain. It started to feel like we were driving a taxi on the water: taking passengers out, showing the animals, coming back, and repeating the same routine — day after day — while companies made large profits but learned little about the ocean or its inhabitants.
We witnessed many different ways of doing whale watching. In some places, it was done with deep respect, strong ethics, and clear codes of conduct. In others, unfortunately, it was purely about business — making people happy at any cost, even at the expense of the animals’ well-being.
Empezamos Wisewhale.org, our first work and website. It is a project created from the heart, to help people understand what lies behind the whale-waching industry — how to choose responsible operators, what to expect at sea, and how marketing and profit-driven tourism can shape our expectations in ways that don’t always serve the animals’ best interests
Este viaje nos llevó a dar un salto de fe y crear nuestro propio camino: el Proyecto Ballena Sabia. Nuestra idea era sencilla: volver al océano y hacer las cosas bien. Crear experiencias que no se limitasen a ver ballenas y delfines, sino a comprenderlos. We want a purpose beyond profit.
Our goal is to inspire a new approach to whale watching: one that values respect, education, and genuine connection over entertainment. At the same time, Wise Whale Project integrates real research. Every trip, every observation, and every encounter contributes to building knowledge, raising awareness, and protecting wildlife.
Cuando llevamos a la gente al mar, nuestro objetivo no es sólo ofrecer un espectáculo, sino despertar la curiosidad, el amor y el respeto por la increíble vida que comparte este planeta con nosotros. Creemos que una vez que la gente entienda de verdad el océano y sus criaturas, se sentirá inspirada para cuidarlos y protegerlos.
Porque, al fin y al cabo, el océano no gira a nuestro alrededor; somos solo una pequeña parte de un mundo mucho mayor, que compartimos con seres tan notables e importantes como nosotros.
